Q2 Update – Pietsch & Dankel fastest

Robert Pietsch and Erik Dankel topped the second round of qualifying at the ENS, Pietsch improving the 1:8 Q1 pace by over 3-seconds to finish half a second up on Michael Salven while Dankel knocked a massive 5.5-seconds off Dirk Wischnewski’s opening touring car time, the latter setting for the second fastest time.
Pietsch said his Mugen was again not great but has discovered that the offset of the handout Matrix tyre is different to that of his main tyre sponsor Contact and so will run a narrower track width for Q3 which he said should give him the feeling he is looking for. The fastest 1:8 in Q1, Mark Green set the third fastest time behind Serpent team-mate Michael Salven. The British driver said the change back to his dry radio tray took a bit of time to readjust too but once he found his rhythm the car felt much better than the previous heat. Unfortunately for Green he ran his engine too lean with it crying enough on his final lap of the 4-minute qualifier. Salven was very happy with his 977 and once again was setting the TQ pace before two bad laps dropped him back behind Pietsch.
Having made two mistakes in Q1, Dankel redeemed himself to top Q2 with his Capricorn setting the fastest lap to outpace the Xray of Wischnewski by 7/10ths at the end of the 4-minutes. Shepherd’s Freddy Sudhoff completed the Top 3 ahead of team-mate Patrick Schafer, Patrick Nahr and Gerhard Kandelhart.
